Here are some of the words and phrases you'll see when reviewing GM Protection Plan and Mechanical Repair Protection vehicle service and maintenance contracts. |
| — A — |
| Agreement Term: An agreement term is the time and mileage during which a contract is in effect. |
| Alternate Transportation: GM Protection Plan Major Guard, Value Guard and Smart Protection will pay the cost to rent a replacement vehicle or for public transportation whenever two or more manufacturer's labor time guide hours are required for a covered repair or if the vehicle must be kept overnight. |

| Basic Guard: GM Protection Plan's essential vehicle service contract, covering four major assemblies (engine, transmission / transaxle, fuel delivery components and front / rear-wheel-drive components) for parts and labor costs, as well as Towing for covered repairs. |
| — C — |
| Cancellation:
An act that ends a GM Protection Plan contract earlier than the scheduled contract expiration. Cancellation requests made within 60 days of GM Protection Plan purchase will be refunded in full if no claim has been made. After 60 days, contracts will be canceled using a pro rata method. Fees and requirements vary by state.

| Claim: A request for payment for services or repairs received based on coverage provided by a vehicle service contract, vehicle maintenance contract or insurance policy. |
| Contract Expiration: The vehicle mileage or date on which a vehicle service or maintenance contract ends. All vehicle maintenance and service contracts purchased end at the time or mileage selected (whichever comes first) calculated from the plan purchase date and odometer mileage at the time of plan sale. |
| Contract Inception: The vehicle mileage or date on which vehicle service or maintenance contract coverage begins. All vehicle maintenance contracts and vehicle service contracts purchased vehicles begin on the plan purchase date and at the odometer mileage at the time of purchase. |

| Deductible: This is the amount you pay per repair visit for covered repairs. If the same covered part fails again, no deductible will apply. |

| GM Protection Plan: A vehicle service contract and vehicle maintenance contract for vehicles sold by GM and affiliated dealers. |
| Goodwrench Care: A vehicle maintenance contract that covers a fixed number of oil changes and filter replacements for leased or purchased GM cars, light-duty trucks and vans. |

| In-Service Date: The date on which a vehicle is first placed into service. Generally, this is the date of a customer purchase for vehicles sold as "new." Exceptions may include consumer purchases of dealership "demo" cars and company-owned vehicles whose in-service dates will reflect the beginning of dealership or company use. |
| In-Warranty: A vehicle that is within the manufacturer's new vehicle limited warranty coverage. |

| Major Guard: GM Protection Plan's most comprehensive, premium vehicle service contract, covering virtually every component of the vehicle as well as providing Alternate Transportation, Roadside Assistance, and Trip Interruption, including Towing. |
| Mechanical Repair Protection: A vehicle service contract and vehicle maintenance contract for buyers of non-GM vehicles sold by non-GM dealers with a GM affiliation dealership. |

| New Vehicle Limited Warranty Period: The time and mileage for which the manufacturer's new vehicle limited warranty is in effect. |
| — O — |
| Out-of-Warranty: A vehicle whose time and mileage exceeds the manufacturer's new vehicle limited warranty term. |
| — P — |
| Pro-rata Cancellation Refund: A cancellation refund based on the lesser of days or miles of coverage remaining. (Fees and requirements vary by state.) |
| — R — |
| Roadside Assistance: A part of Major Guard and Smart Protection coverage that includes 24-hour-a day, toll-free service for flat tire change, towing, battery jump, locksmith / key service and out-of-gas fuel delivery. Up to $75 will be authorized or reimbursed for use of these services. |

| Smart Care: A GM Protection Plan vehicle maintenance contract that covers basic scheduled maintenance services such as oil changes, oil filters, tire rotations and chassis lubrication. |
| Smart Protection: A GM Protection Plan vehicle service contract for leased GM cars, light-duty trucks and vans. Smart Protection provides coverage equivalent to Major Guard, covering virtually every major vehicle system and component against failure. Smart Protection also includes Roadside Assistance and Alternate Transportation. |

| Transfer:
The act of moving a GM Protection Plan from the current vehicle owner to the new owner when the vehicle is sold. (A small administrative fee may apply.)

| Trip Interruption: If you are on a trip more than 100 miles from home and haven’t reached your destination, Trip Interruption will reimburse you up to $150 per day ($750 maximum) for unplanned hotel and/or restaurant expenses incurred if a covered component fails and requires more than a day to repair. All work must be completed at a licensed repair facility. No deductible will apply and original receipts must be provided. |

| Value Guard: The GM Protection Plan's quality, broad-coverage vehicle service contract that covers parts and labor expenses for nine major assemblies (engine, transmission / transaxle, front / rear-wheel-drive components, vehicle manufacturer-installed air conditioning components, braking components, front suspension, electrical components, fuel delivery components, and steering components) as well as Alternate Transportation and Towing. |
| Vehicle Service Contract (VSC): An agreement that covers the parts and labor costs associated with the repair of a mechanical failure; also known by several other names including mechanical service agreements, extended service contracts and extended warranties. |
| Vehicle Maintenance Contract (VMC): An agreement that covers specific maintenance services according to the scheduled time and mileage requirements in your owner's manual. |

| Wear and Tear Coverage: The applicable coverage in the event an original or like replacement part is unable to function in normal service. |
